We understand that quality of service and the integrity of data issued by the laboratory is a vital consideration for our clients. Within TDL service standards and compliance - needs are monitored by our Quality Management Group (QMG). Situated in our main facility in Central London, QMG provide an on-going auditing process which assists in ensuring operational standards meet compliance needs. All the labs work to CPA (Clinical Pathology Accreditation) standards and the laboratory aspects of ICH GCP guidelines and principles.

The Quality Management Group (QMG) is responsible for the planning, organisation and direction of a quality management system within all divisions of The Doctors Laboratory in accordance with appropriate accreditation and regulatory bodies. The aims of these recommendations may be summarised thus:

• To meet the needs of relevant evolving regulatory standards and good practice (e.g. CPA and ICH GCP)
• To ensure sufficient resources and management time is devoted to quality
• To formalise External Quality Assessment management procedures
• To meet the needs of our clients


Quality Assurance (QA) is the use of monitoring techniques, including inspections and audits, to promote confidence in laboratory results, to assure the quality of the data generated and to ensure compliance with accrediting bodies such as Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA).

Quality Control (QC) is the use of techniques to reduce discord and discrepancy in results of measurement of the same quantity in the same material.

External Quality Assessment (EQA) is the process whereby a laboratory’s analytical performance is assessed with respect to its peers using analytical material obtained from an external provider such as a United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Scheme (UKNEQAS).

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are issued by TDL QMG and fall into TDL’s document control processes. These documents form an important part of training to ensure the staff at TDL comply and conform to ICH, GCP and ISO regulatory requirements. SOP’s are available for clients to review on-site during the audit process. Together with ensuring TDL’s internal policies are met, our QMG team are available to facilitate client audits.
